BOI Yacht Club sailors Win Starling & P-Class Regatta

The weather gods definitely decided to test our sailors at the 2015 Inter-School Regatta & Farr 3.7 Nationals on the weekend of 7, 8 & 9 March at Waitangi, with races started in 20-22 knots, but with top gusts of 33 knots recorded.  Nerve was needed as well as skill, and our young sailors showed they had plenty of both, taking out 1st place in both the P-Class and the Starling Class.

We had 55 competitor boats on the water which made for some hectic action.  The rescue boats were kept busy with some of the less experienced competitors finding the conditions too much for them.  Gear breakages frustrated some aspiring hopefuls who instead of getting points on the board, got a tow back to the beach.  With such trying conditions, we were very lucky to have so many fantastic volunteers helping to keep everyone safe.
